  15. Beta Release of ForeignControls an Extension to NeXT's Enterprise
  16. Objects Framework available

  18. Zurich - April 9, 1996 - Uptime Object Factory Inc announces
  19. ForeignControls. ForeignControls adds two user interface objects
  20. to the Enterprise Objects Framework (EOF) ForeignTextField and
  21. ForeignPopUp.  Both objects provide a large number of handy features,
  22. like chooser functionality, fetching over a relationship, looking
  23. up records through short cuts and incremental searching. Typically
  24. ForeignControls are used whenever data from an associated table is
  25. to be displayed (that is why they called 'Foreign' Controls, because
  26. usually there is a foreign key involved) or when it comes to narrowing
  27. down an ambiguous selection to a single record. All functionality
  28. of ForeignControls can be accessed from the keyboard without using
  29. the mouse. "There has been a drastic cut down in both development
  30. time and the time needed for customers to enter information since
  31. we use ForeignControls" says Matthias Heubi, director of software
  32. engineering at Uptime Inc. "Selecting a record with just a few
  33. keystrokes is an order of magnitude faster than working with the
  34. mouse - not even to speak of drag and drop"

  36. For most convenient use ForeignCotrols is shipped as an Interface
  37. Builder palette. Just by dragging a ForeignTextField or ForeignPopUp
  38. from the palette to your application, specifying the model, entity
  39. and property in the inspector and connecting to an EOController
  40. ForeignControls is ready to run.

  42. There has been made an commitment that ForeignControls will work
  43. with OPENSTEP in its next release. The current release of
  44. ForeignControls works with NEXTSTEP for Intel, Sparc, Hppa-Risc
  45. and NeXT.
